Beowulf

Beowulf
"Nor have I ever seen,/ Out of all the men on earth, one greater/ Than has come with you; no commoner carries/ Such weapons, unless his appearance, and his beauty,/ Are both lies."

                                         Journal 1
Beowulf, the dragon slay of the epic poem Beowulf, is a hero who faces death in order to save a community in danger  Grendel, decedent of Cain, is Beowulf’s major enemy in the poem. Only Beowulf, with his superior strength, is able to beat Grendel, who is unharmed by man-made objects. Beowulf’s use of power and strength for the good of humanity is like that of superman. Superman, born on the planet krypton is rocketed to earth before the destructions of his planet. Very early he displays superhuman abilities, and like Beowulf decides to use his abilities for the good of humanity. Beowulf’s morals are to follow in Angola-Saxon tradition and to extinguish all evils and monsters that victimized society. Superman had similar morals. Superman was like a modern protector of his time, using his powers to keep peace. Beowulf and Superman have powerful abilities to beat any villains or monsters that threaten their people. Beowulf abilities are of super human strength. Unlike the other men that are unable to beat Grendel, because of the lack of effect of weapons, Beowulf is able to fight the creatures with just his bare hands. Superman’s abilities are superhuman strength, invulnerability, healing factor, flight, super speed, X-Ray vision, Heat vision, super human breath, and super human vision. Superman’s extraordinary powers show him to be superior to all others.  This same image is made for Beowulf who says to be the superior man. In both cases, these two superheroes use their powers to fight crime and prevent danger. For this reason these men, are given the title of superhero because of their use of power for good instead for personal gain or evil.
